ÜRGÜP |
Ürgüp is one of the most important centers of Cappadocia region. As in Göreme, it has had many names in the historical process. Osiana (Assiana), Hagios Prokopios in the Byzantine Period; Başhisar during the Seljuk Period; Burgut castle during the Ottoman period; It has been known as Ürgüp since the first years of the Republic.
Having a geological structure of volcanic origin, Ürgüp was established in an area where frequent and typical examples of interesting natural formations created by rain and wind erosion and defined as fairy chimneys are densely located. The fairy chimneys rising between the crevices formed as a result of the erosion of the rain water flowing from the valley slopes and then the winds have created a very interesting landscape view unique to this region.
